In Rodriguez's essay he uses private an public language to relate to the issues of bilingual education and explains how it differs from home and school.
At home Rodriguez and his family spoke spanish. That was the only language he knew. He was comfortable speaking spanish so to him it was a private language.
When he was in school, he had to learn english and to him it was a foreign language. Rodriguez found english to be a challenge. According to him english was the language of " Los Gringos", the american language. English to him was a public language.
As he began to learn english, he made the distinction that english was not only a public language, but a private one as well. When he finally learned english, it opened new opportunities that he could not achieve before.
The distinction between individuality and separateness that the author makes is that he says that there are two ways that a person is individualized, that one suffers a diminished sense of private individuality and the other becomes assimilated into public society, such assimilation makes possible the achievement of public individuality.

Public And Private Language by Richard Rodriguez
In Rodriguez's essay, it seems like there are two distinct languages, private and public. Public and Private Language relates to the issue of bilingual education because Rodriguez spoke private language at home, and public language at school, and learned the importance of both. When he was at home his family all spoke spanish, to him spanish it was a normal language to use. He felt comfortable speaking spanish, to him this was a private language. When he was in school, he was learning english and to him was a foreign language. In school he found it difficult to learn english. According to him english was the language of " Los Gringos". I heard the first english words from when I over heard my parents speak it. In my opinion he learned the importance of both, he thought that speaking spanish was a private language, but then he realized that it was a public language like english. The distinction between individuality and separateness that the author makes is that he says that there are two ways that a person is individualized, that one suffers a diminished sense of private individuality and the other becomes assimilated into public society.

My winter break vacation
Do You Think Students need a "Winter Break"? Yes I believe that all students should get a break. My family and I went to Florida. The experience of driving a 1000 plus miles round trip was a great one. We stop at seven states. Having had this break, my family and I got to have quality family time. we bonded as a family. For us students it is a good thing to have a break because we need to clear our minds for a while from all that studying.
